After a very successful summer promotion for the Fremont Street Experience with the “Summer of ’69 – Vegas or Bust” events and the OKTOBERFRIGHTFEST festival in October, it would appear that those interested in not only revitalizing downtown Las Vegas but actually competing with the Strip have taken a step in that direction.
The highly anticipated Rush Tower, the newest addition to the Golden Nugget Las Vegas, opened on Nov. 20, with a VIP party held Nov. 23. The $150-million development was designed to not only enhance the historic property but also rival other resorts in upscale elegance and luxury. Mayor Oscar Goodman participated in the ribbon-cutting and, according to him, “The debut of the new tower will not only add to the excitement of the area but will establish Landry’s Restaurants as a leader in the redevelopment of downtown Las Vegas.”
“Rush Tower will now define the ultimate Las Vegas experience providing exceptional accommodations as well as add to the already supreme dining opportunities and exceed the unparalleled customer service already delivered to our guests,” said Tilman Fertitta, Chairman of the Board, President and Chief Executive Officer of Landry’s Restaurants, Inc., which owns the property. “The tower is the latest in our ongoing renovation and expansion projects at the Golden Nugget, which now total more than $300-million, and which will certainly up the ante for other properties in Las Vegas.”
The porte cochere is accented by a new, million dollar landscaped entrance at First Street and Carson Street. The lobby features custom-designed lighting which includes two chandeliers “connected” by a string of lights giving the ceiling its own artistic design. There is the distinctive, floating reservation desk offering private check-in service for Rush Tower with a 75,000-gallon tropical aquarium fish tank filled with more than 1,000 fish as the backdrop.
There are 500 added guest rooms, 20 percent larger than the Golden Nugget’s current North and South standard rooms, decorated in earth tones and bright accents. The baths, opened by French doors, are double the size of standard baths with bowl sinks, glass-encased showers and large tubs that accommodate people taller than 5 feet. The toilets are private from the rest of the bath in what was once called a “water closet” to allow for total privacy.
A leather sectional couch and desk add to the comforts of the room with a both bright and soft lighting available. The television is 42-inch plasma flat screen with a separate DVD/CD player offering numerous channels. The bed(s) include upgraded pillow-top mattresses and feather-down comforters
The tower also includes four Penthouse Suites and 70 Junior Corner Suites, which provide views of the Las Vegas Strip or of the Golden Nugget pool.
The Chart House Restaurant features a custom-designed menu offering signature Chart House dishes as well as numerous specialty items unique to the Golden Nugget. Located next to the lobby, it features the aquarium with seating available next to it.
There is the convenience of a casino located in the lobby of Rush Tower along with the connection with the main casino. There is also a separate door to the pool area with gaming, bar and its own aquarium.
A new, upscale retail complex will include d’Oro fine watches and jewelry, high-end apparel by Nineteen Forty-Six Boutique, desserts and confections at the Chocolate Box, and The Signature Shoppe providing unique souvenirs of the property.
