Las Vegas is known as the entertainment capital of the work and it is appropriate that from November 30-December 3, the International Association of Fairs and Expositions held its annual convention at the Paris Las Vegas.  Designed to bring together entertainers, agents, food vendors, service vendors, product vendors and anyone else who works the “fair” circuit, this convention offers educational classes, networking opportunities and an exhibit hall.

The mission of the IAFE is, “To represent and facilitate the interests of agricultural fairs, exhibitions, and show associations.”

One of the highlights in this year’s convention was the poster of Terry Fator (Winner of America’s Got Talent 2007 and headliner at the Mirage Las Vegas) when he worked the circuit for over ten years.  There was an acrobat, who said he was 70, still performing.  Animal acts included dogs, a kangaroo, a wombat and an orangutan.

Kenny Giordano, musician and owner of USA Talent Agency (www.usatalentagency.com), attended the convention for the past two years and has been working the circuit for over 25 years. He calls it, “a summer camp reunion in the winter.”

Victor Hulet, representing Laserops, said, “It’s the only time of year where you can stand back and enjoy the diversity of all the family entertainment options.”

Impressionists, now called tribute acts, and hypnotists made up the greatest percentage of entertainment acts represented, followed by musicians with an emphasis on country, country rock and folk music genres.

Insurance and wristbands had the biggest presence in the exhibit hall for services and products.  Bud Light beer and Coca Cola were the two big name food vendors with ice cream and popcorn a close second.  Jay White, performing as Neil Diamond for the past eight years, was the only resident Las Vegan and that is changing with him performing his last show Dec. 3 before going on the road in 2010.

The organization has not released the number of attendees and vendors that participated in the event.
