Feeling nostalgic for a New York style breakfast joint? The Bagel Cafe at 301 N. Buffalo will be as close as you can get here in Las Vegas. The moment you enter, the sounds, sights and smells are so reminiscent of breakfasts past, your senses are transported to another time and place. True, you need not be a transplanted New Yorker to appreciate the Bagel Cafe but for those of us who are, its a place to “come home” and eat. The food servers are pleasant, hurried and very knowledgeable about an overwhelming menu. Smoked fish, amazing omelets, giant salads (the shrimp deluxe is my personal favorite), overstuffed sandwiches, etc., etc. make choosing difficult. A bagel comes with most things and some how these bagels taste the closest to what I remember back East.
Finishing your meal is a challenge but you can happily take some to go – leaving room for dessert. Order one for the table, they are gargantuan but oh so good. Black & White cookies are another favorite of mine and good ones are hard to find outside of true bakeries, a disappearing facet of American life. The ambiance is noisy, bright and bustling – just the thing for a Saturday or Sunday morning outing. During the week, a perfect spot for lunch, get there on the early side, this is a popular spot. Of course, the Bagel Cafe can also handle your catering needs and does a splendid job for holidays.
Be hungry when you go, you’ll be stuffed when you leave. Enjoy!
