Las Vegas (February 4, 2010) – Launching his partnership with the Andre Agassi Foundation for Education, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame artist and Las Vegas headliner Carlos Santana today joined Andre Agassi for a tour of the Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy, meeting with children and offering his support.  Santana is encouraging public donations through video messaging during his live performances of Supernatural Santana: A Trip Through the Hits this month. Santana’s high-energy rock fusion show is currently playing exclusively at The Joint inside Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.

From now until February 21, audience members at Supernatural Santana: A Trip Through the Hits can donate to the Andre Agassi Foundation for Education in increments of $5 via text message. Concertgoers will be prompted to text the word “Kids” to 20222 in order to make a contribution. Messaging and data rates may apply and a one-time $5 donation is charged to the user’s wireless bill. The Andre Agassi Foundation for Education can receive donations through March 31via text or at any time through their web site at agassifoundation.org.

“We are so grateful to Carlos Santana for his generosity and compassion,” said Andre Agassi. He understands the toll that hunger, poverty and lack of access to education has taken on the world’s young people, and he is a living example that ‘caring, by definition, means doing’. For more than a decade his Milagro Foundation has made a difference in the lives of underserved and vulnerable children around the world. With Carlos, we believe we can make an impact on what matters most—giving our children the tools to succeed through education and the life choices it allows them to pursue.”

During his visit, Santana interacted with students from the Academy as well as select students from Cheyenne, Legacy, Mojave and Sunrise Mountain High Schools, imparting his wisdom during a joint inspirational address with his friend Andre Agassi. In collaboration with Santana’s visit to the school, and continuing in the spirit of supporting The Milagro Foundation, longtime licensees of Carlos Santana, PRS Guitars and Latin Percussion (LP) donated a PRS Santana SE electric guitar and a set of LP Santana Aspire series congas and shakers to the Academy’s music department. Like Carlos, both PRS and LP have enthusiastically partnered with local agencies and community organizations to inspire young musicians. Also, Sony Legacy Recordings who are releasing the 10th Anniversary edition of “Supernatural” have donated 700 copies of the most honored CD in Grammy History, Supernatural, to every student and faculty member in the school.

Carlos Santana’s Milagro Foundation is committed to assisting projects, schools and agencies that are working to support underserved children in developing college aspirations.  Agassi Prep continues to achieve this goal with 100 percent high school graduation and college acceptance.  “We applaud their efforts and are proud to be a part of this dream for the children of Las Vegas,” Shelley Brown, Executive Director, said.  The Milagro Foundation is a publicly supported foundation established by Carlos Santana and his family in 1998.  Milagro benefits underserved and vulnerable children around the world by making grants to community based tax-exempt organizations that work with children in the areas of education, health and the arts.  The Milagro Foundation is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of children.  www.milagrofoundation.org

In addition to the musical donations and financial support, Santana is inviting students from the Academy’s Drum Line to appear in the opening number of show on February 6. The Andre Agassi Foundation for Education
The Andre Agassi Foundation for Education transforms public education in two ways. Through our charter school, the Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy (“Agassi Prep”), we strive to provide children in Las Vegas with a quality K12 education to prepare for excellence in college and beyond. Through state and national advocacy, we are also working to increase investment and accountability in public schools.

The Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy
The Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy Agassi Prep was founded in 2001 in Clark County, Nevada, and has become the signature project of the Andre Agassi Foundation for Education.  The first senior class graduated in 2009 with a 100 percent college acceptance rate.
