Venue: Ovation

Genre: Country

Date: Monday, June 14, 2010, at 7 p.m.

Ticket Prices: Listen to KCYE 102.7 FM to win tickets

Artist Info: KCYE 102.7 FM is celebrating its third Fan Jam with country stars Chris Young and Eric Church and newcomer Emily West.

Since Chris Young first floored audiences of television’s “Nashville Star” in 2006 with his original hit single “Drinkin’ Me Lonely.” America’s up-and-coming country singer and songwriter from Tennessee has hit Billboard’s Top Country Album charts with his self-titled debut album. His follow-up album, The Man I Want to Be, charted two singles at No. 1, previously with “Gettin’ You Home (The Black Dress Song)” and its title track is currently sitting at No. 1.

Eric Church began songwriting when he was 13 years old and bought himself a guitar shortly thereafter. In 2006, Producer Jay Joyce produced Church’s debut album, Sinners Like Me on Capital Records, featuring the Billboard Hot Country Songs charted singles: “How ‘Bout You,” “Two Pink Lines” and “Guys Like Me.” He released his follow up album Carolina in 2009, which reached No. 4 on Billboard’s Country Albums chart and included the hit singles “Love Your Love the Most” and “Hell on the Heart.”

Emily West grew up with the dream of one day becoming a country singer and moved to Nashville upon an early graduation from high school. Her moved proved fruitful and she signed with Capitol Records, which released her self-titled, debut four-song EP in 2007 via the Internet. West’s song, “Rock in Your Shoes” hit the Billboard Country charts the following year. Just this year, West released the single “Blue Country” that charted in the Top 100 for Billboard’s Country Songs.

Nashville Unplugged: the one-year anniversary

Featuring Bobby Pinson and Danny Myrick

Venue: Ovation

Genre: Country

Date: Friday, June 18, 2010, at 8 p.m.

Ticket Prices: $5 cover at the door and includes first beer

Artist Info: Celebrating its one-year anniversary, Nashville Unplugged is based on the concept of getting to know what’s behind the song, similar to the famed Bluebird Café in Nashville. Each month features two songwriters who go through the process of what went into writing a particular song and then they perform it at the show.

June’s songwriters are Bobby Pinson and Danny Myrick. Pinson co-wrote Toby Keith’s “She Never Cried in Front of Me” and Sugarland’s “All I Wanna Do” and “Already Gone,” among others. Myrick’s songwriting career just started to take off a few years ago and has made quite the impact on country music since. Songs he’s written include Craig Morgan’s “International Harvester,” “Big & Rich’s “LOUD” and Jason Aldean’s “She’s Country,” which was the most-played country song of 2009.

Each month is hosted by singer/songwriters Brian McComas who wrote and sang “I Could Never Love You Enough” and Aaron Benward of Blue County who wrote and sang “That’s Cool.” Another fun aspect of Nashville Unplugged is “Songs from a Hat” where guests that arrive between 7:15 p.m. and 8 p.m. can make up a title to a song and place the suggestion in a hat. The songwriters will pick one title from that hat and then pen a song throughout the course of the evening, to be performed at the end.

Ticket Prices: $22.50 plus tax and applicable fees

Artist Info: Soul Asylum first got its start playing the indie-punk circuit and getting radio airplay on college radio stations throughout the country. In 1992, the band signed with Columbia Records and released the album Grave Dancers Union, which slowly but surely rose up the charts, eventually selling so many albums it reached multi-platinum status. The album’s hit single, “Runaway Train,” helped to make the band a household name in ’90s grunge rock. The band’s follow up album, Let Your Dim Light Shine reached No. 6 on the Billboard charts and featured the single “Misery” that charted at No. 1. The band released one more album and then went on a seven-year hiatus, working on various solo and group projects. The band reunited in 2004 with the news that bassist and founding member Karl Mueller was diagnosed with throat cancer. He sadly passed away the following year, but not before recording several tracks on the album The Silver Lining, which was released in his memory. Two new members joined the band as a tribute to Mueller and they have toured together since.

Opening act The Kin is composed of Australian brothers Isaac and Thorry Koren. A few years ago they embarked on a worldwide tour with their infectious brand of alternative music; melodic, soaring vocals and insightful storytelling. The Kin has released two records, Rise & Fall and The Upside as well as a live, acoustic EP.
