CHARITY EVENT
Murphy’s Law will host a fundraiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) on Tuesday, Aug. 10 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event is being hosted to raise money for the Southern Nevada chapter of MDA. Ladies can enjoy $2 well drinks and all guests can enjoy one free green beer with a $5 shamrock cutout donation. As the event is family-friendly, games and activities will be available for children in the dining area. A live DJ will also be spinning throughout the evening.
Murphy’s Law will begin selling shamrock cutouts that evening to help raise money for MDA and kick-off the tavern’s “Half Way to Saint Patrick’s Day” event, which will take place on Friday, Sept. 17. Green shamrocks will be available for $1 and gold shamrocks for $5 and will be displayed around the tavern. All proceeds from the shamrock cutouts will go to the Southern Nevada chapter of MDA as well as ten percent of the evening’s food and beverage purchases.
Donations to MDA go towards funding research, flu shots, therapy sessions, summer camp for MDA children and much more. All donations raised will benefit families in the Las Vegas area with neuromuscular disease. Those wishing to make a donation can do so at the event or visit www.mdausa.org for more information.
POOLSIDE PERFORMANCE
The summer brings such great weather we can enjoy our entertainment outside. SHAGGY will perform his Reggie concert at the Palms Pool and Bungalows, Thursday, August 12.
Jamaican-American reggae artist Shaggy emerged in the early ’90s and has proved to be one of the biggest crossover success stories in dancehall reggae. Early on, one of Shaggy’s first singles which was a hit overseas “Oh Carolina,” coupled with the high-profile Maxi Priest duet “One More Chance,” was enough to land Shaggy a lucrative deal with Virgin Records in the early ’90s.
His debut album, Pure Pleasure, was released in 1993. Shaggy first hit big in the U.S. in the mid ’90s with Boombastic. The title track sold more than a million copies and peaked at #1 on the R&B charts. The album reached platinum status and spent a full year at #1 on Billboard’s Top Reggae Albums chart and won Shaggy a Grammy award for Best Reggae Album in 1995. Multiple crossover hits followed with success both in the U.S. and overseas and in 2002 Mr. Lover Lover: The Best of Shaggy, Vol. 1 was released. In 2007 he released Intoxication which also hit #1 on the Billboard Top Reggae Albums chart.
