Sandy Zimmerman’s SHOW REVIEW: ”The Phantom-The Las Vegas Spectacular is a Work of Art”
Seeing the “Phantom- The Las Vegas Spectacular” again was as thrilling as the first time when I was invited to the elaborate VIP Media party for the play’s grand opening. Although different versions of the story of the “Phantom of the Opera” have been performed throughout the years, the Venetian Resort’s big budget presentation has become heralded for the superior quality of its production.
Just like a fine work of art, everything about the “Phantom” is perfect- the creative sets, beautiful costumes, sterling performances, and surprising SFX. The elaborate golden design around the faux balcony booths, the gigantic staircase which holds 300 people during the masquerade scene, and the falling chandelier are just a few touches which will keep members of the audience talking long after they have left the theater.
The timelessness of the “Phantom- The Las Vegas Spectacular” has transcended over the years through generations of fans! Why is this theatrical production so revered, so loved? At first there are times when the audience feels compassion for the Phantom, yet as the play progresses his personality changes and the Phantom shows he is deeply disturbed. The Phantom becomes a dangerous story as well. The Phantom and his love are rich personalities, each showing their true character.
Celebrating their fourth anniversary, the “Phantom” has always been spectacular in everything they have done. Imagine an entire audience of 1,800 people wearing the Phantom-style half masks! This was a record-breaking moment making history as the largest gathering of Phantoms ever.
“Phantom” was named the #1 show on the strip by the Las Vegas Review Journal (2006). Only in Las Vegas can you do a production of this magnitude. “Phantom – The Las Vegas Spectacular” is the strip’s hit with critics and audiences alike, haunting The Venetian Resort’s showroom. Among the many celebs attending the show throughout the years, on January 25, 2010, the Miss America Pageant contestants came as a group and met the cast.
From the moment you enter the magnificent $40 million custom-built theatre, you are in the storied Paris Opera House and part of The Phantom’s world. It is a can-not-miss experience that promises surprises that will astound new audiences and loyal Phantom fans alike, and it’s only at The Venetian! Tickets from- $59.
